Google Tag Manager: Adding Users with Full Access to Manage Tags, Triggers, and Debugging

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log into Google Tag Manager
  1. Select the Appropriate Account and Container
  • From the GTM dashboard, choose the account and container where you want to add the new user.
  1. Access User Management
  • Click on the Admin tab located in the navigation bar on the left side of the screen.
  • Under the Container column, select User Management[1][2].
  1. Add a New User
  • In the User Management page, click on the + icon (Add) in the top-right corner.
  • Choose Add User from the dropdown menu[1][3].
  1. Enter User Details
  • In the Add User dialog box, input the email address we supplied to you (reach out if you are unsure what email to add).
  • Under Account permissions, select Administrator.
  • Under Container permissions, click on the domain and a side panel should appear where you'll need to select all options to Read, Edit, Approve, and Publish.
  • Ensure that the email address is associated with a Google account[4].
  1. Assign Permissions
  • Choose Publish under Container Permissions to allow full access, including creating and editing tags, triggers, and variables, as well as publishing changes[2][7].
  • Alternatively, if you don't want them to publish changes, you can select Edit, which allows them to create workspaces and edit but not publish[1][3].
  1. Send Invitation
  • After selecting permissions, click on Invite.
  • The new user will receive an invitation email to join the specified GTM account and container[5][6].
  1. Confirm User Access
  • Once the user accepts the invitation, return to the User Management section to verify their status and ensure they have been granted the correct access level[1][2].
